Liverpool news: Mohamed Salah contract saga continues as current deal runs out in 2025

Transfer News Blitz’s writer Harry Whitfield provides the latest on Mohamed Salah’s contract situation at Liverpool.

Salah scored two goals at the weekend in a superb second-half performance as Liverpool beat Southampton 3-2 to send them eight points clear at the top of the Premier League.

However, after the game, Salah expressed his frustrations at not being offered a new deal yet.

Speaking to NBC Sports, he said: “Well, we are almost in December, and I haven’t received any offers yet to stay at the club.

“I’m probably more out than in.

“I’m not going to retire soon, so I’m just playing, focusing on the season,” Salah said as he admitted he was ‘disappointed’ with how the negotiations have played out so far.

Possible Destinations

The former Roma player joined Liverpool back in 2017 and has since won the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup and EFL Cup in his seven years with the team.

The Egyptian King soon became a cult hero at the Merseyside club and a legend in the making, scoring 223 goals in 367 appearances, putting him in fifth of the all-time top goal scorers in Liverpool’s history.

But now, there is doubt surrounding his future with the club as reports suggest Barcelona could be interested in obtaining his services on a free transfer.

Last season, Liverpool fought off interest from the Saudi Pro League side Al-Ittihad in bringing Salah to Saudi Arabia.

Still in Slot’s plans

With his contract nearing an end, new boss Arne Slot may be unable to fend off any interest this time around with the ball in Salah’s court.

In a press conference on Monday, Slot responded to his forward’s comments over being “probably more out than in”.

“When I look at my line-ups, Mo is more in than out,” the former Feyenoord boss said.

Slot believes his star forward is not distracted by the rumours and is more focused on the short term as Liverpool prepares to face Real Madrid on Wednesday.
