Man Utd news: What’s next for Marcus Rashford after comments about wanting ‘a new challenge’?

Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho were left out of Ruben Amorim’s squad for the Manchester Derby last weekend.

The duo watched on as Amad Diallo produced a fine display to secure a 2-1 victory over local rivals Manchester City.

Before the game, Amorim stated that the pair were left out for various reasons and on Wednesday, in an interview with Henry Winter, Rashford revealed that he was ready for “a new challenge”.

Despite the Red Devils boss claiming that Rashford was referring to the challenge that lies ahead with United, Transfer News Blitz’s writer Harry Whitfield takes a look at the potential destinations for the 27-year-old in the January transfer window.

Arsenal

Many Arsenal fans will remember when Alexis Sanchez ditched the North London club for the red side of Manchester in 2018.

Or when Robin Van Persie left for their bitter rivals in a move that still haunts the Arsenal faithful to this day.

But it could be role reversal this time around with one of Man Utd’s own moving down south to the Gunners.

In need of a striker, despite Rashford preferring to play out wide, Mikel Arteta could look to reignite the form of the Mancunian to add some more firepower to their attacking ranks.

The bookies have Arsenal amongst the favourites with Oddschecker giving him odds of 8/1.

Any Saudi Arabian club

It wouldn’t be a transfer story without the Saudi Pro League getting involved and clubs like Al Hilal could offer Rashford a significant yearly salary to move to the country.

Bet365 has odds of 5/1 but considering he is only 27 and wants to earn his spot back in the England National side under Thomas Tuchel, it is unlikely that he will consider making the switch.

However, with the madness of the transfer window, you’d be a fool to rule out anything.

PSG

Another club that could afford his costly wages could be Paris Saint-Germain, who lead the way at the top of the Ligue 1 table.

Seven points clear, a huge chance at silverware and with the French side looking to rebuild after losing their star man Kylian Mbappe to Real Madrid, PSG could provide the ideal next step in Rashford’s career.

The Parisians are the bookies' favourite to sign the Man Utd forward with Bet365 offering odds of 5/2.

However, considering the competitive nature of French football compared to other top European leagues, the appeal of PSG might not be as attractive as the bookies suggest.

Spain or Germany

The best league to offer a real challenge for Rashford could be Spain, and Barcelona are the most likely club from La Liga to sign the English winger.

From Germany, Bayern Munich are the favourites as Rashford could join England captain Harry Kane in the Bundesliga.

Both clubs have been given odds of 14/1 by Bet365 but it would be hard for Rashford to get ahead of Raphinha and Lamine Yamal at the Catalan club.

With both Serge Gnabry and Kingsley Coman currently injured for Vincent Kompnay’s side, Rashford could provide better competition at Bayern than Barcelona, fighting with Leroy Sane for that left-hand side position.

Another London-based club

As well as Arsenal, both Chelsea and Tottenham are high up on the bookies’ favourites for Rashford’s next destination.

Enzo Maresca already has a plethora of wingers at his service including; Jadon Sancho, Noni Madueke, Pedro Neto etc.

But Bet365 has odds on offer of 10/1 for Rashford to move the West London side.

Spurs already have Son Heung-min, Dejan Kulusevski, Brennan Johnson and Timo Werner within their attacking ranks.
