Everton news: Carlos Alcaraz set to make first Premier League appearance for Toffees in Merseyside derby against Liverpool
Everton and Liverpool return to Premier League action this week as the two rivals finally play the first Merseyside derby of the season.
It will be the last derby game between the two at the historic Goodison Park as the Toffees prepare to move to the creatively named ‘Everton Stadium’ on Liverpool’s waterfront next season.
Both sides come into the match off of FA Cup disappointments, as the hosts lost 2-0 to AFC Bournemouth, and Arne Slot’s Reds fell to a shock defeat against Plymouth Argyle.
However, their Premier League form is unmatched.
David Moyes has led Everton to three wins in his first four matches in charge of the club, while Liverpool have not lost in the league since September against Nottingham Forest.
Why was the Merseyside derby postponed?
Initially, the Merseyside derby was scheduled for December 7 last year.
However, due to adverse weather conditions and heavy winds from Storm Darragh, the Premier League were forced to rearrange the match.
Everton’s January addition
Whilst Liverpool made no January additions to their squad, Everton brought in Argentine midfielder Carlos Alcaraz on loan from Brazilian side Flamengo.
The 22-year-old has, in fact, already made a Premier League appearance this season for Southampton, where he plied his trade before making a £15million move to Brazil.
However, the midfielder is now back in England after making a deadline day switch to Merseyside.
Alcaraz came off the bench for his Toffees debut against Bournemouth in the FA Cup and could now be in line to make his first Premier League appearance for Everton.
