Premier League news: The best deals from the January 2025 transfer window, Marcus Rashford and Omar Marmoush included

The January transfer window slammed shut on Monday, with several big names joining Premier League clubs.

The winter market is renowned for being a difficult window to make marquee signings, however, clubs in the Premier League still managed to spend around £370million, a significant increase from the £96million spent last year.

Reigning champions Manchester City were the highest spenders last month, with transfer fees totalling just under £180million on four new first-team additions.

Transfer News Blitz writer Josh Kirtley has looked at the five best January signings that could greatly impact the second half of the Premier League season.

Marcus Rashford, Manchester United to Aston Villa

After falling out of favour at Manchester United under new head coach, Ruben Amorim, Marcus Rashford joined Unai Emery’s Aston Villa on loan until the end of the season with an option to make the move permanent for £40million.

The England international has struggled to find consistency, however, when he is fully fit and firing there are not many better forwards in the Premier League.

During the 2022/23 season, the 27-year-old scored 30 goals in 56 appearances for the Red Devils.

Rashford has made a total of 426 appearances for Manchester United, scoring 138 goals, as well as receiving 60 caps for his country scoring 17 times.

Omar Marmoush, Eintracht Frankfurt to Manchester City

Omar Marmoush made a move to the blue half of Manchester for £64million after an electric start to the season in Germany for Eintracht Frankfurt,

The Egyptian scored 20 goals and provided 13 assists in 26 games for the Eagles this season, with only Harry Kane scoring more.

The forward is also impressively top with Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz for assists in the Bundesliga this season.

The 25-year-old’s versatility and output make him a great replacement for the recently departed Julian Alvarez, who joined Atletico Madrid in the summer for £81million.

Mathys Tel, Bayern Munich to Tottenham Hotspur

Mathys Tel made the switch from Bavaria to North London, after making just eight league appearances for Bayern Munich this season.

The 19-year-old Frenchman is a very highly rated young forward, capable of playing anywhere across the frontline.

After arriving in Germany under Julian Nagelsmann, the former manager spoke of his quality.

He said: “One day he can become one of the best strikers – that’s our plan.

“He can develop into a world-class player. I have a vision one day he will score 40 goals.”

If given regular game time, perhaps it could be under Ange Postecoglou at Spurs that Tel showcases his undoubted talent.

Evan Ferguson, Brighton & Hove Albion to West Ham United

West Ham United were in desperate need of a centre forward after injuries to Niclas Fullkrug and Michail Antonio – so they have brought in highly rated youngster, Evan Ferguson.

The Irishman will reunite with former manager Graham Potter in East London on a straight loan until the end of the season.

The 20-year-old has struggled with injuries lately, which has perhaps made people forget how good of a talent he is.

Ferguson has already made 80 appearances for the Seagulls, scoring 17 goals.

When fully fit, the young centre-forward has all the tools to put an end to the Hammers striker woes, which they have suffered with for many years.

Kevin Danso, RC Lens to Tottenham Hotspur

After centre-back Radu Dragusin had suffered a serious knee injury, Tottenham were in the market for a new right-sided defender.

26-year-old Kevin Danso arrived on loan from Ligue 1 side RC Lens last Sunday, with a view to a permanent deal in the summer.

The Austria international was set to join fellow Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers, but the defender changed his mind when Spurs came calling.

Danso is viewed as the archetypical modern centre-back, possessing great physical attributes and being comfortable on the ball.

These are key qualities needed for a central defender in a Postecoglou system – where the North London club have suffered greatly with injuries, losing the likes of Micky Van de Ven, Cristian Romero, Ben Davies and Dragusin this season.

This will be Danso’s second stint in the Premier League, after a brief loan spell at Southampton in the 2019/20 season under Ralph Hassenhuttl.
