Tottenham news: Mathys Tel set to complete U-turn and join Ange Postecoglou’s side on loan from Bayern Munich

Bayern Munich star Mathys Tel has landed in England to sign for Tottenham Hotspur.

The Frenchman turned down a move to Spurs last week after Ange Postecoglou’s side had agreed a £50million fee.

As per Sky Sports, Bayern were understood to have preferred a permanent deal or a loan with an option or obligation to buy.

Whilst Spurs initially agreed to a straight loan with the Bundesliga club, the North Londoners were able to negotiate an option to buy the youngster for a fee in the region of £45million.

Struggled for game time at Bayern

Tel signed for the Bavarians from French outfit Stade Rennais for €20million in the 2022/23 season.

In the forward’s first two seasons at the club, the France U21 international made 69 appearances, scoring 16 goals and contributing 6 assists - not a bad return given the youngster’s age.

However, this season has been different, with Tel struggling to make an impact on the pitch.

Vincent Kompany has often utilised the Frenchman from off the bench, with the Belgian handing the hot prospect just four starts in all competitions.

With just one assist in 14 appearances this season, it is safe to say Tel has had a tough campaign at the Allianz Arena.

Leaving the Bundesliga leaders on loan could be just the kickstart that the youngster needs.

Tottenham need a forward

Postecoglou’s side have had a dreadful Premier League campaign, with the North Londoners sat 14th in the table.

Tottenham have a huge injury list, with Dominic Solanke, James Maddison, Timo Werner, Brennan Johnson and Wilson Odobert all currently sidelined.

Tel will certainly have a huge part to play at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for the rest of the season, with the Spurs’ faithful hoping the Frenchman can hit the ground running.
